Summer in Montreal: Palais du Congres, RÉSO, Place Victoria, Old Montreal and Old Port

Just a simple collection of photos taken while walking around the city.

The Palais des Congres, also known as the Montreal Convention Center, is located in the Quartier international de Montreal at the north end of Old Montreal in Montreal's borough of Ville-Marie. The Palais was constructed above the Ville-Marie Expressway, the main underground highway of downtown Montreal. It connects to the Montreal Metro at Place-d'Armes station, and to Montreal's underground city. (Source: Wikipedia)

The photo of the pink tree-like structures is public art by Claude Cormier, entitled "Lipstick Forest". It is located in the shopping promenade on the first level of the Palais, which connects to Montreal's underground city and metro system.

Place Victoria is a little piece of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of downtown Montreal. I walked there via the underground city from the Palais des Congres.

The blue-and-yellow striped tents in one of the photos at Old Port are where the internationally-acclaimed, Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil, is currently performing their new show, Kurios. I went to see their performance on the 17th of May. It was spectacular, but unfortunately photography was not permitted.
The Underground City, known to locals as  RÉSO, now spans more than 20 miles of tunnels around the city. It is a convenient and quick way to get around the city and its metro system, especially during the hot summers and harsh winters.

Horse-drawn carriage tours of Old Montreal are quite popular.

 Cirque du Soleil Tents, Old Port

The Jacques-Cartier Bridge, which links Montreal Island to the city of Longueuil, Quebec. Also pictured (behind the bridge) is La Ronde, a popular theme park at Longueuil.

Quite a few couples have clipped locks like this one to the metal fence bordering the St. Lawrence River.
