Danshui Port

This collection of photos was taken in late July of this year at Danshui Port in New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. The area is a popular tourist attraction. The women in the photos are food vendors on Danshui Old Street. The second woman is cooking fresh bird eggs, a popular snack.

12th Annual POW WOW Festival: McGill University, Montreal, Quebec

This collection of photos was taken at the 12th Annual POW WOW Festival on September 20 at the Lower Field on the campus of McGill University (my university). I was taking photos for the McGill Tribune. It's a celebration of Native Canadian (First Nations, Inuit and  Métis) culture and included events such as inter-tribal dances, Inuit throat singing, traditional dances, women's hand drum and round dance.

The Lin Family Garden Part II (林家花園)

Introduction from the Garden's website (edited for clarity):

"The Ben-Yuan Lin’s Family Mansion and Garden in Banchiao is the most complete private garden left in Taiwan today.  In the old days, wealthy businessmen  lived in exquisite, elaborately designed mansions and gardens, which they used to entertain government officials and business partners.  Often they spent large amounts of money on building these refined structures.  Yet due to the natural destruction or chaos caused by war and the passing of time, most such Chinese-style mansions and gardens in Taiwan now lie in disorder.  Some have already disappeared and can only be found in scholars’ writings or recorded histories.  Luckily, the Ben-Yuan Lin’s Family Mansion and Garden in Banchiao has been renovated and maintained by specialists after being ruined during Taiwan’s restoration.  Now parts of the mansion and garden have restored as original.  The Ben-Yuan Lin’s Family Mansion and Garden in Banchiao can be considered as a historical treasure left by the people from the past and also a place for people to truly understand the heritage and history of Taiwan."

This was my second visit; the first was in the summer of 2011. This time around, I recognized all the scenes I'd captured on the first visit, so I sought to find new angles and perspectives.
