Musings on History: Bopiliao Historic Block (剝皮寮歷史街區)

I visited Bopiliao with a friend in mid-July. Bopiliao Old Street, located in Wanhua District, Taipei, dates back to the Qing Dynasty and features a variety of century-old red-brick walls and buildings. In the late 20th century, the entire area was restored, and since then displays and exhibits recreating scenes from Qing-era life have been set up.

Two of the photos in this collection were taken at the Taipei Main Station, part of the Taipei Metro System.

Here is an overview of the area, copied verbatim from a sign:

"Known today as Lane 173 KangDing Road, Bo-Pi-Liao Street in Mangka District is a well-preserved Qing Dynasty street which used to be a major passage between Mangka District and Guting District. In the Japanese Colonial Period, under new urban planning, Bo-Pi-Liao Street was displaced by the current Guangzhou Street as the major passage, relegating the old street to back alley [status]."

Jerusalem Part III consists of the photos I took in my final 2 days in Jerusalem. My family and I visited several more churches, even attending part of a Sunday service in one of them. We also returned to the Garden Tomb, where we took communion. Hundreds of other Christian pilgrims attended the service and communion in the garden that day. The olive-wood cups remain cherished keepsakes.
