Salt

This collection of photos was taken yesterday, on a trip with my school's Photo Club. We visited Salt, a Christian town in west-central Jordan. We walked through a market downtown and visited two churches in the area. The Al-Khader Church, a local pilgrimage site, was built in 1682 in honor of St. George, who according to legend was a Christian soldier in the Roman army in the 3rd century BCE. He was executed when he refused to make a sacrifice to Roman gods (Visit Jordan website).

“I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?" Death thought about it. CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.” ― Terry Pratchett, Sourcery

"The front door to springtime is a photographer's best friend."~Terri Guillemets

This collection of photos was taken two days ago on a day trip to Umm Qays, a town in northern Jordan that is in close proximity to the ancient Hellenistic-Roman town of Gadara. It has a rich history and remains a popular site for tourists. Umm Qays is famous for its Roman ruins, including columns and an ancient theater (unfortunately I did not take pictures of the theater).
March 22nd was the second official day of spring, and the wildflowers were in full bloom.
