林家花園 The Lin Family Garden
The Lin Family Mansion and Garden was the home of the Lin noble family during the Qing dynasty. When the era came to an end, the garden fell into ruin until it was restored in recent decades. Descendents of the original Lin family still live in the mansion adjacent to the garden. Elaborate private gardens such as this were used to entertain public officials and business partners. No two window-frames or doorways are the same in this garden, which is part of its appeal.
I visited this garden with my uncle and mentor(of photography) on a sweltering day, but there were still throngs of Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese tourists running about. When the heat got to my head, we stopped at a small cafe located on the grounds for a Chinese pastry and iced Oolong and osmanthus flower tea. All in all, it was a prolific day, and my new 55-300 mm Nikkor lens (purchased that morning) came into good use.
